To solve this problem on the Mac when importing grades web pages from Easy Grade Pro, Gradekeeper® or Making the Grade, use the following suggestions:

  • Make sure you are using Safari 3 (or higher) or Firefox 3 (or higher).
  • If you are using Safari, while Safari is open, select "Preferences" from the Safari menu.  Go to the Security section, make sure "Enable Java" is checked and close the Preferences window.  Then, select "Empty Cache" from the Safari menu.
  • If you are using Firefox, while Firefox is open, select "Preferences" from the Firefox menu.  Go to the Content section and make sure "Enable Java" is checked.  Then, go to the Advanced section, choose the Network tab and click "Clear Now" in the Offline Storage section.
  • If you are using an Intel Mac (MacBook, Mac Pro, etc.), make sure the "Open using Rosetta" option is not checked.  To do this:
    • In the Dock, click and hold the Safari/Firefox icon until a menu appears - select "Show In Finder".
    • Safari/Firefox will now be shown and selected in your Applications folder.
    • Select "Get Info" from the File menu, or type Command (Apple)-I.
    • In the Safari/Firefox Info window that appears, if the "Open using Rosetta" option is checked, uncheck it.  Close the window.
    • Quit Safari/Firefox and then re-open it by clicking on its Dock icon.
  • Clear the Java Temporary Internet Files.  To do this:
    • Open the Java Preferences application, which is located in the folder at: Applications > Utilities > Java (Mac OS X 10.5.x or 10.6.x) or Applications > Utilities > Java > J2SE 5.0 (Mac OS X 10.4.x).
    • On the General page, go to the Temporary Internet Files section and select "Delete Files".  Make sure all 3 options are checked and press OK.  Close Java Preferences.
    • Quit Safari/Firefox and then re-open it by clicking on its Dock icon.
You should now be able to successfully import grades web pages by selecting the appropriate set of instructions for your gradebook here.  If you continue to experience difficulty, submit a Support Request, and make sure to include the name and version number for Mac OS X, Safari/Firefox and the gradebook program you are using (i.e. Mac OS X 10.5.8, Safari 4.0.4 & Easy Grade Pro 4.0).
